title pic Sex can give you Thrush!

And yoghurt can cure it! I was reminded of this when someone asked me what to do about the eternal itching ‘down there’.

Vaginal itching is often related to a surplus of yeast. The vagina naturally produces a lot of bacteria keeping the area acidic which helps prevent Thrush. I know personally and from other women I talk to that we tend to wash more frequently in an effort to stop the itching – DON’T!! You end up washing away the much needed bacteria and this action increases the itching.

Sexual activity can result in itching and soreness and it can happen throughout a woman’s menstrual life and because of the decline of those hormones, thrush affects even more women in the 50+ age group. The affect of this can put you off sex, whatever your age. It’s also worth bearing in mind that if you’re under stress, unwell, etc., this can change the functioning of the body and reduce the production of organisms to fight disease.

There is an easy answer, however, waiting for you in the dairy cabinet of your local shop or supermarket.   Buy some plain, unadulterated, organic yoghurt - dip a tampon in it and this should be inserted twice a week. This will help prevent Thrush occurring and cure the Thrush you already have. Yoghurt is rich in acid producing good bacteria which is just what you need.
