Snow report from Nutley
Posted by kathryn on December 17, 2010
A half hour blizzard at lunch time today, in Nutley, left villagers snowed in. The Ashdown Forest is being declared an official ski resort and the A22 is lining up for consideration as a new speed skating practice area in time for the Olympics. The whole road a sheet of ice, only the 4×4’s were making headway. Normal cars were struggling to go down the hill and people were physically trying to push their cars up the hill as the ice was defeating any grip by car tyres.
Temporary traffic lights in the village were causing bedlam as the traffic attempted to negotiate the slalom section outside the village store. One white van lost control and side-slipped into a parked car. Ouch! The driver did stop and get out briefly, then returned to his van and drove off again… A young lad riding an off-road motor bike thought he knew better than anyone else, came gingerly out of a side turning onto the A22, turned on the speed and slid sideways down the A22 – not what he expected and with an audience, too; looking quite sheepish when he got up – not hurt, thankfully, silly arse!
All looks calm, now, as the sun sets, the sky is grey which bodes of more snow to come. -3C at 09:00 this morning; couldn’t get into my car as the doors had frozen shut which was unfortunate as I was trying to get to the hairdressers. Glad I got everything done early this morning.
Nice lunch at Marco Pierre White’s new gaff in Maresfield.
